Dude! There's a Home Depot built on the sand pit that I used to build fires in as a teenager. (Shit! I just outed myself as a hick) No music relations, though. And I've already told you about the townhomes and the horses directly behind the Home Depot, but I don't think I told you about how we can see the branded water tower from the back yard.

Yay! devolpment.

And I'm all fired up today reading about people who are anti-contracpetion. I want to see tham have their homes destroyed by suburbia and then ask them why they want to keep having people procreate like mad.

wow, I said devolpment. and contracpetion. I've been typing too much today.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Except I felt like going so far as to kill all the useless humans overrunning my haven without waiting for them to stop reproducing on their own. (Overkill, perhaps, but...)

I was, on the other hand, feeling grateful that my parents bought property so much in the middle of nowhere that it's probably safe from the breadth of this development. You really should come visit with me. I'd like to show you where I grew up. I'm going to go take pictures now, because it's a beautiful day and I don't have enough pictures of this place. The rain is coming down just right.

I'd like to go there with you sometime. This weekend wouldn't have worked regardless. I'd like to see the pictures, though.

it's funny, i haven't been on this site in months...
i wanted to change some things, and my page showed me that among my friends, your phone post was the most recent. i downloaded it and listened heartily as i worked to find what i was looking for.
amongst my search came the page where i could change the language my LJ was written in. "wow," i thought. "i've never seen this before."

i also thought that you're a wonderful person and i have a lot of respect for you, and i miss you.

it's true.

lo and behold -- when i go to tell you as much, you've written in greek.

gots love, ryan.

holyloki: ah shit

well, thank you, and i would have written in greek if i still remembered any of it, but that was my friend Kyle who posted that. i can pick a little bit out of there, but alas this is the second time in two days I've mourned the loss of my classical languages. perhaps i need to rebuild.

you're an awesome guy too Cordis, and I await the day when we'll reconnect.

hopefully it will be at some grand momentous occasion we can all celebrate. my guess is that that will be exactly what it will be. ; )

patrick: They deserve success

I doubt modest mouse was sitting down in their office at the record company and told their manager "Make sure we get airplay in Issaquah's Home Depot".

I used to feel more like how you feel. I would be like "I can't believe they sold out and are on mtv and the radio!" But you know what, what's wrong with a band reaching success in the industry like modest mouse did. How many albums did they release before any music of theirs broke on the radio?

For me, the bottom line is that they make great music. I love listening to "This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About" just as much as I love listening to "Good News for People who Love Bad News". Why is it so bad that they are now being promoted by the corporate machine instead of word of mouth?

holyloki: Re: They deserve success

It's not so much that they 'sold out' and that I care that they're being promoted so widely, I agree with you that they deserve it.

What it really came down to was that the manner of their appearance in that place was so ironic. The specificity of it was kind of disheartening. Especially since I was already depressed by the horrific development of that area and thinking about those issues, the sudden inclusion of their music in that movement broke me down...as Sam said, I sounded like I was going to cry. Home Depot was more craptastic than usual in a sense. It was also still interesting to peruse the semi-prefab store.
