Yeah, but they were paying a lot more percentage-wise when it was based on income. And, anyone who's not making an income high enough to be taxed but spends money pays a lot more too. Guess who that means. What about homeless people? Did you notice the elimination of the estate/gift tax? That mostly helps the rich as well. These changes mostly hurt the poor.

Ryan is rockin it on the sales tax as regressive.

the income tax is what keeps us right now from being a two tier society. without a progressive tax there is no distribution that a) keeps the middle class functioning and b) keeps services that promote the education, health, and welfare of a first world nation. for it is precisely through taxes that we are able to run the programs that we identify so strongly as our public urban landscape: libraries, hospitals, schools, traffic lights.

think the worst of rural america...everywhere.
